RCSI Education & Research Centre, Connolly Hospital
RCSI is the national training body for surgery in Ireland. Established in 1784, RCSI is a world-leading international health sciences university and research institution. The university leads pioneering research and delivers cutting edge academic programmes at Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Professional level.
The Education and Research Centre at Connolly Hospital is RCSI’s second major clinical centre of academic excellence in Ireland. The €32 million centre is a state-of-the-art healthcare education facility with additional diagnostic and research capacity. Advanced AV infrastructure was required to cater for health sciences teaching, research and collaboration activities. Image Supply Systems was engaged to provide audio visual, design, supply and integration for the 4,100 sqm, three-storey building, located in Blanchardstown, Dublin. In line with RCSI’s commitment to sustainability, this centre has A-rated energy efficiency, having been developed using the Energy Efficient Design approach.
The initial consultation phase featured thorough analysis of end-user and management requirements and priorities. Working closely with RCSI, we tailored solutions for each setting, whilst implementing standardised control for optimum usability. From lecture theatres to meeting and tutorial rooms, a mock operating theatre, practical skills rooms and public spaces, bespoke and flexible systems were designed to cater for each environment. Utilising innovative, robust and intuitive equipment was essential. Professional equipment from leading industry brands that align with RCSI’s standards were selected. Control and distribution comprise of Crestron, Extron and QSC systems. All lecture theatres and meeting rooms are Microsoft Teams ready.
Our project team collaborated with the architect and building contractors to ensure that our integration works fully aligned with the building design vision and programme.
The Auditorium is a 200-seat multifunction space with movable seating. This flexible space is equipped with Sony laser projection and a 4m motorised screen. Fully-integrated audio features front of house speakers, ceiling speakers and a gooseneck microphone at the custom lectern. Handheld and lapel microphones cater for presenter movement throughout the room. Microsoft Teams and lecture capture functionality is delivered via the inhouse PC, supported by network PTZ cameras. All audio and display systems are controlled using an intuitive touch control with custom interface, which has been designed in consultation with RCSI.
In the 45-seat lecture theatre, a Sony large format LED display and fully-integrated audio has been installed. Microsoft Teams and lecture capture functionality is delivered via the inhouse PC. Again, all audio and display systems are controlled via a user-friendly touch control with custom interface.
Meeting and Tutorial Rooms feature Sony Pro LED displays and Crestron control.
Onelan digital signage in reception, café and canteen areas delivers a variety of content with impact.
